Ongewoon lekker uit Toscane

Super Tuscans zijn wijnen - vaak rood - die in het klassiek Italiaanse wijngebied Toscane worden gemaakt van andere druivenrassen dan de klassieke sangiovese. Vaak uit het gebied rondom Bolgheri, waar je beroemde namen vindt als Solaia, Sassicaia en Ornellaia. Paolo de Marchi, de wijnmaker van ons chiantihuis Isole e Olena, maakt ook een prachtige Super Tuscan onder de naam Cepparello.

Ook een bourgognedruif kun je echter met een gerust hart aan Paolo toevertrouwen. Hij startte zijn chardonnay-project eind jaren tachtig en plantte vijf verschillende chardonnayklonen uit de Bourgogne aan. Inmiddels is zijn Chardonnay uitgegroeid tot een ware cultwijn, die in kleine oplage gemaakt wordt en binnen een mum van tijd uitverkocht raakt.

Na de oogst fermenteert de wijn op barriques, een derde van de fusten is nieuw.

I especially admire the wine's brightness. The cool growing season was ideal for Chardonnay. Élevage continues the trend of reducing bâtonnage that started with the 2023. This is terrific.
